Nine years later, in 2023, with House Bill 1500, there was an attempt to legalize Kratom in Indiana or at least regulate it. It successfully passed the House of Representatives with a vote of 53-40. Kratom is to be declared not a controlled substance but instead a ‘Kratom product,’ classified mainly as a food product or dietary ingredient. To limit the concentration of alkaloids, which were allowed in Kratom products. The manufacturers were required to maintain a Manufacturing Batch Record and share individual lab test results for each product. Imposition of proper labeling requirements, including expiration date, ingredients, batch number, and more. It made the sale of Kratom to minors a criminal offense.
